  1. For some reason I’m reminded of the “Showin’ her my ‘Oh’ face” line from Office Space (http://bit.ly/5vytV1) and not Sammy Farha taking a Texas Hold ‘em hand on the flop (http://bit.ly/80iZJD). I’d like to see them work in some SMS/MMS features on a mirror website that allows people at the Palms to share their poker faces at the bar, at the tables, or elsewhere. Maybe allow SMS shout outs along the lines of, “This place is redonkulous and swarming with beautiful women. You gotta get to the Palms.” Put some control in the hands of the consumer.

Michael – check out my facebook page. Someone left me a note on the origin of the song Poker Face from Lady Gaga. I think you are right about your 1st comment given what the history from Gaga’s interview. Cool thoughts.

Keith Thanks for the guestbook idea.

There’s nothing about this that makes me like The Palms any more, and I actually like it a little less now. OK I get the release was timed to align with her concerts there, but shame on Palms for telling people to ’show your poker face’ at their site then give us nothing to do.

My primary complaints however are that they’re aligning with a fad, an annoying one at that, and they’re insulting my intelligence with ‘ha ha, get it – poker face – we’re a casino, ha ha, get it?’.

Palms spent years building its reputation as the only place for uber-hip 20- and 30-something singles to party in Vegas, doing it by just providing really hip stuff and getting out of the way. The hottest brands came to them asking to join forces (Real World, Playboy, Paul Okenfold) where the other guys have had to go out and pitch.

Just another of the recent mis-steps of brands trying too hard to monetize their chic – ‘Natty Light’ is a big no-no in my opinion. If you have to tell us about your cool, then you are NOT cool. Find other ways to monetize your chic. I highly doubt In-N-Out Burger will be putting ‘Animal Style’ on its menu anytime soon.

If Palms ‘had’ to use this song they should’ve used it to solve for the #1 consumer pain of uber-hip 20- and 30-somethings in Vegas: hooking up. Build an ap that allows weekend guests to create a profile/mugshot (or post my Facebook profile), and allow me to browse the profiles of other tenants…I should be able to message the ones I dig and if they respond, cool – I’ve just eliminated 99% of the flirting BS, and Palms has just built itself an invaluable competitive advantage – they’ve increased the odds of hooking up for their guests. If she doesn’t message me back, then no harm no foul, I’m no worse off than if I roll in analog style.

I’d pay $100 more a night if I knew I’d have the ability to search out all the bachelorette parties and message them, or invite a group of Tar Heel alums to our cabana at the pool.

Enable people to use their ‘poker face’ to lower the barrier to hookup.

Dougie P- I’m in agreement with your quote “shame on Palms for telling people to ’show your poker face’ at their site then give us nothing to do.’ but I really liked your comments about them trying too hard to monetizie their chic. I can see your point though I didn’t think too much of it personally mostly because it was more of a music video to me tying in the experience. It definitely raises some question in my mind now about them trying too hard. I was really just disappointed to see all the time and effort put into it to just leave the “uber-hip 20-and 30-somethings” hanging.

Love the app idea…you should bottle that up and sell it across world to resorts targeting single men!
